And we are back!

Welcome to 2011. Not only a new year, but hopefully a new era for our New York Mets.

I guess I need to start off by explaining just where the heck we have been. I can’t speak for Eddie but only myself. I needed a break. I was a beaten man. At the time I couldn’t continue to keep pounding my head against the wall. I couldn’t stand watching a team make every move but the correct ones.

It was pretty apparent pretty early that the writing was on the wall and this era of the Mets was an abject failure. Minaya was a dead man walking and the Mets were in essence a rudderless ship (enough cliches?). I couldn’t stand the fact that I felt like I cared more then the people in charge.

As we welcome in the new year, we also welcome in a new braintrust. I will touch on those moves in future posts but the bottom line is I couldn’t be happier. I know a lot of people are upset about the Collins hire instead of Backman and I understand that. But don’t let it distract you from the fact that we have now, another cliche – on paper, one of the brightest, contemporary, forward thinking front offices in baseball. That old complaint of the Mets only signing Latin players can be buried now. Signings will make sense based on numbers. In the near future I have a feeling those numbers will have $$$ next to them. I am hoping in the not-so-distant future the numbers will be on field statistics.

Bottom line is the Pundit is back. We are getting ready for another season. We may not have realistic World Series aspirations but at least we can find security in the feeling of progress. A feeling of having a master plan. A feeling of integrity and class at the top, that in time will trickle down.

I still need to see more, and I probably have too many Mets scars to ever be anything but a pessimistic Mets fan, but I like the foundation laid this offseason. I am very intrigued to see where we go from here.

Welcome to MetsPundit.com

Let me take this time to welcome you to MetsPundit.com.  What exactly is this all about you say?  Well to be honest I am not really sure.  Each time I stand at my white-board and try to map out the long-term big-picture of the site (as I do with my other blogs) I have a real hard time doing it.  You see that’s the beauty of sports.  It’s really hard to have any idea where it’s going.  When your talking about my New York Mets you can enlarge that by a magnitude of 10.

This blog will be used for all sorts of wonderful things.  Mostly it will be used as a sort of pressure-release valve as we travel along on this journey we call being a Mets fan.  Rise or fall, sink or swim, you can expect me to be full of opinions on it.

I don’t pretend to be a good writer.  I certainly do not claim to be any sort of journalist.  But what I can 100% promise you is that I am a die hard passionate Mets fan.  Anything posted here will be from the heart.  If your coming here because they Mets just suffered an abominable loss, you can rest assured I will be feeling your pain.  If somehow our prayers are answered and we get Major League Baseball back in Flushing, you can be sure I will be a babbling elated fool.

I tend to skew a bit into the pessimistic side of things when it comes to my sports fan makeup.  It’s my nature.  Hell I largely blame the Mets for this trait in my personality.  At times I can become a frothing-at-the-mouth hater and for that I apologize now ahead of time.  Please feel free to put me in check, I often need it.

Ideally I would like for MetsPundit.com to become go-to site for authentic Mets commentary.  I draw a lot of inspiration from MetsBlog.com and take no shame in saying so.  Matthew Cerrone has done a magnificent job of covering the Mets with a great degree of professionalism while at the same time staying true to his inner truth as a Mets fan first.  I would greatly enjoy it if you came along for the ride with me and lets just see how this site, and most importantly me personally, evolve as a blogger.  I always welcome comments and input, so don’t ever hesitate to contact me.  I am a great believer in feedback-loops.  Hopefully I wont let anyone down and I will improve as both a writer and a journalist.
